Unrelated to famed “Close to You” singer Karen Carpenter, the luscious Linda Carpenter actually started her career as Louisville Kentucky’s own Linda Beatty, Playboy’s “Playmate of the Month” in August 1976. Thus, it’s not all that difficult to imagine her in the role of “Sandra Beatty (Miss August)” in the classic flick Apocalypse Now (1979). But that wasn’t her first appearance on screen. In 1976, Linda played Betsy on an episode of Wonder Woman, which marked her first foray into acting. A Playboy centerfold showing up on a primetime family show might seem odd, but Linda’s first flick was even stranger. She showed up in Big Time (1977), a blaxploitation film financed by Motown Records that was written, in part, by Smokey Robinson. Enough was enough in 1978 though, and it was time for the smokeshow to stop robbing us of nudity. Yes, it was time to get big to Miss Carpenter. Luckily, Linda concurred and took a sexy role in 1978’s A Different Story, a romantic comedy about a gay guy who marries his best female friend to keep from getting deported, only to fall in love with her. Linda revealed her rib cushions whilst in a shower with the gay man gone straight played by Perry King and proved those king sized sandbags will make even the most ardent gay man hardened. In 1979, Linda landed her most famous role in Apocalypse Now, although much of her role would be seen in 2001’s Apocalypse Now Redux. Linda performs for the troops by shaking her jugs to Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Susie Q,” until the GI’s get too worked up by the performance and she’s got to split without them seeing a full tit. The horror. We’d go to war if it meant Linda Carpenter would handle our wood!
